Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge form and conventions of real media products?

In our music video we have decided to do a narrative performance based piece  that looks at all the conventions of a famous music video. Firstly the style we have attempted to interpret is the R&B style with costumes, props and a smooth flow to the video that relates to the lyrics and style of the song. throughout we have looked at especially the narrative in the video as in most R&B music videos the narrative plays a large part. We decided to create a narrative that would relate again to the lyrics in the song and that would make people want to watch; has an effect on them. Romance is key here as R&B conventions are often related to the idea of love. This leads us onto the props and colour scheme, the costumes we have used are meant to look glamours yet natural to make people believe that the story is real. The colour scheme for example the leopard printed coat and leather jackets are to make the characters have a specific style and personality as often peoples first impressions tell alot about a person. We also decided to use the colour scheme for the climax of the video using a red car to resemble danger against the contrasting blue colours of the character.

Development, we developed this original idea when shooting as we felt often some of our best ideas came through working from the original. We developed the video to look professional and to present a specific story to the audience. We decided that developing our ideas would come through the process of using different shots places and lyrics, often the ideas become spontaneous or in the momment as we tried to think of obvious signals to the audience of representing the conventions of the R&B style as we obviously could tell them in words.

However, our music video has a real impact on the audience and has perhaps a storyline that they can relate to, this effects and attaches the audiences emotion to the video which i think can challenge the coventions of real media products.

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
We used various media technology within the construction of our video, for example the online blog where we could post our progression, updates and photographs. Through the blog either one of us could could update it at any time. Other technology we used included digital camera, we used this to take photographs of the artist to create our ancillary texts.

We also used final cut express to edit and capture our video footage, by using this our editing techniques were of a professional quality. When creating our digipack we used a variety of Adobe Photoshop and Gimp to create our pieces to a good quality. For research and evaluation we used facebook to upload our video and used public interaction to asses our video.

Finally the internet and the iMacs, they are a large part of the media technology we used as without them the creation would not of been possible as we would not of been able to find our artist, download their music and create this blog.

What have you learnt from your audience feeback?

Throughout our work we have constantly been updated by any audience feedback, we have done this by creating questionaires, posting them on facebook and giving them out to people. We have also used our audience through facebook as youtube as people have liked and commented our video rough cut and have told us in person what they have though and anything they think we could improve on. We aslo had verbal feedback throughout via caroline and other students.

We feel that we have developed any feedback people had given us, for example, in our rough cut video people did not understand how we got to the carcrash scene so therfore the lesson after we went and filmed this extra scene to be added to our video. We also took our advice from our audience when they requested more high angle shots, so we filmed more shots for the beggining sequence at a hight angle.

In our ancillary products we recieved verbal feedback from Caroline which lead us to improving them and making them look more proffesional. We also had students look at them while we were editing who gave us feedback and their thoughts on our ideas so far.

Change of plan with this pannel piece. I did not feel it was strong enough to be the front cover so i have created a 'thank you' message pannel to be within the digipack instead. i feel this is a stronger outcome of this part and fits in much better. I think for a front cover pannel we need a strong image.
